The second-largest city, Freeport, is more hectic and cosmopolitan place than Nassau, a paradise for outdoor activities. The city and its environs have a huge number of golf courses, tennis courts, diving and fishing centers. And there is no wonder – a city is just a half of century old, and from the outset it was built as a luxurious resort.
The main commercial area of Freeport, which is called here Mull, is located between Renfarli-Sekes and area of Churchill Square around the city center and the “international market”. Around Port Lucaya, there are a huge number of markets, hotels and restaurants, framed by carefully trimmed lawns and ornamental shrubs. It is believed that this is the funniest and most rave region of the country, with the most vibrant nightlife, two casinos and an abundance of shops. One of the attractions of the city is the restaurant Le Chicken Snack, which trains is believed to be the world’s best chicken barbecue. The very ethnic area around the restaurant is not the most prosperous place on the island, but the national color, which is in excess, often overrides any inconvenience.
On the west bank is located Rand Nature Center Memorial, which includes the Museum of Grand Bahama and several excellent parks, such as Garden of the Groves or Eden in which grows over 5000 varieties of exotic plants from around the world. Souther to the city in the midst of the luxurious resort area, lies the National Park Lucayan. On its territory is located the world’s largest system of underwater caves, mangrove swamps and a host of luxury riverside (total area of the park is about 40 acres). And at the west end you can visit the picturesque village of Ter-Jack, where he once hid pirates and clandestine producers of rum.
