Bermuda was opened by a Spanish explorer Juan Bermudez in 1503. After the expedition of Sir George Somers on the ship “Sea Venture”, wrecked off the coast of Bermuda in 1609, the island for a long time bore the name of a British admiral. Somers returned to Bermuda in the same year, but died shortly afterwards, so the name did not stick. By the way, left on the Somers Isles settlers are believed to have served as inspiration for “The Tempest” by Shakespeare. Today, these islands are known at the time of Somers only pine forests and harsh natural conditions, have turned into one big resort area, famous for its coral reefs, beautiful beaches of pink sand, beautiful gardens, quiet coves and clear water.
