Each of the seven “big” Canary Islands is original in its own way and unlike any other. But Lanzarote is still special. To verify this, we need to come here not for a day or two and feel its quiet charm. Harsh, but at the same time very friendly.
The fourth largest island of the archipelago is almost entirely devoid of vegetation. A considerable part of Lanzarote is covered with solidified lava – the result of many eruptions, completely changed its face. Multi-colored lava fields, where shoot films about the planet, which is not life began.
Three hundred volcanic peaks are the silent reminder of their presence, and dry moss that had fallen into a shallow pit, flashing a bright flame. Volcanoes have lost their former greatness, but not extinguished, as it may seem at first glance.
Civilization has not destroyed this wonderful island, did not avoid it, and tried to make friends with it. Local residents build houses in traditional style, as once built their great-grandparents, low-rise hotels do not spoil the natural landscape, even in peak of the season there is no crowds of tourists. Harmony that soothes the soul.
At the same time, Lanzarote boasts a well-developed resort infrastructure and a large selection of accommodation options, from modest apartments to luxury hotels category of “grand luxe” with world-class restaurants and spa centers.
The capital of Lanzarote – Arrecife – is located on the southeast coast. The city is home to nearly half of all islanders, a seaport on the island and the only high-rise building. There are several hotels, but tourists rarely stop to Arrecife, preferring a more attractive holiday resort centers.
Lanzarote International Airport is located in five kilometers from the capital. You can arrive here from the island of Tenerife or from some intermediate European cities. Airport is connected by bus to the Arrecife and get to the resort is possible with a change in the capital’s bus or taxi.
The main resorts of the island are settled on both sides of Arrecife on the south. The largest of these is Puerto del Carmen. In the vicinity of the resort of Playa Blanca, hid the most beautiful beaches. And on the western side of Lanzarote tourists will find a local attraction number 1 – Timanfaya National Park, the same volcano, once changed beyond recognition the shape of the island.
The small towns in the central part of the island can still remember the first settlers and cherish cultural traditions. In the north the 1.5 km strait separates Lanzarote from Grasiosa – tiny island, where, according to legend, brutal pirates hid their stolen treasures. To the north of Lanzarote is famous green “Valley of a Thousand Palms”: such was the whole island before the eruption.
P.S. The first color of the island – is black. This is a volcanic desert, covering Lanzarote. Second – red, the color of the hills that seem to still red-hot, as in the days of the eruption.
Cesar Manrique, the artist depicted his native island of black with red rays, as if it were the crater and lava flowing from it. Or does not crater, and Canarian sunshine, a friendly welcome all their guests …
No one can understand this island at first sight, not out of the window to see the coach. Its charm of vagueness, in contrast of opposites. Time is flowing in a different way, so keep watch at home. Forget the daily cares and relax and just enjoy the peace of the world of Lanzarote. After all, you deserved it.
