Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise – still the second most important tourist center of Lanzarote – is located on the ocean on the east side of the island, fifteen minutes from the airport. Unlike the other two main resorts, grew up on the site already preexisting settlements, Costa Teguise built “from scratch” on uninhabited coastal area in the 70s last century.

In many ways, their appearance on a map of Lanzarote resort is obliged to Cesar Manrique. It was supposed to do in the future of Costa Teguise’s leading tourist center of the island, but the plans went awry: Costa Teguise was a shadow of a vibrant resort of Puerto del Carmen.

Costa Teguise distinctive feature due to the location is the wind. Not strong, but steady. Due to this fact, the resort is very popular with windsurfers. However, during the hot summer months, refreshing breeze yet no one interfered. At other times – for an amateur.

The resort center is compact located around the Pueblo Marinero – created by Cesar Manrique, the project decorative “fishing village” where the focus of restaurants and bars, and on Friday evening market is taking place. In the market for sale every necessary and unnecessary stuff: clothes, gifts, jewelry. But this is only a “light version” of the fair, which runs on Sundays in the administrative capital of the coast – the town Teguise.

Pueblo Marinero was once considered a model of modern architecture, which continues the local tradition. However, the new building soon spoiled the original plan.

There is no any port in Costa Teguise. Therefore, for impression of boating and fishing have to travel to Puerto del Carmen or Puerto Calero.

Despite the already venerable age of thirty years, the resort is not the impression obsolete tourism veteran. Are gradually upgrading and renovation, but if you are the key moment of new hotels – pay attention to Playa Blanca.

The resort has a long established infrastructure, designed primarily for tourists. There are electronics stores, jewelry shops, supermarkets, and five beaches.

Costa Teguise – a good starting point for exploring the island, as is well located with respect to the main attractions of Lanzarote. One of the interesting places for tourists in the resort has a water park and aquarium.

At the western end of Costa Teguise you can find La Maret – one of four residences of the King of Spain Juan Carlos. Of the gate you, of course, will not be allowed. Initially, this complex was designed by Cesar Manrique, commissioned by King Hussein of Jordan: in the 70s on a wave of interest in the unusual island of Lanzarote on stretched many foreign celebrities, from actors to the fashion of monarchs. Hussein later give to his friend La Maret Juan Carlos on the occasion of royal weddings.

The word “residence of King” gives birth to imagination, images of medieval castles with luxurious interiors, but the La Mareta modest and does not stand out from the overall architectural concept of Lanzarote. Well, except that with the exception of the helipad…

Bus service connects Costa Teguise on the island’s capital, the resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero. On Sundays, organized special flights to the market in Teguise.

If you want to take the bus from Costa Teguise to the airport, you first need to get to Arrecife and there transfer to another route. A taxi ride to the airport will cost approximately a 20-25 €.
